Push Services and Reducing Number of Clicks
Feb 21 2007, 12:46 PM EST
Quite often, I hear people telling the story its about reducing the number of clicks it takes to get to the piece of content. And I admit with previous companies, I have said this as part of the pitch. However I really do believe it is not about clicks, but TIME.
Users will click to their hearts content, but if the immediacy of the result is not there they lose interest. Push services may reduce the number of clicks, but if they dont reduce the overall time to get the information consumers want, I dont see their value.

I agree, in part. it may be about time, but clicking is an action - and making people click more than a few times to get to the heart of content makes them think someone is making a buck off of them while offering nothing in return. Wired had a great article in August of last year about affiliate rings and splogging. Given the already limited understanding people have of content they see on mobile device screens, clarity of what you do (and don't do) and low click rate will keep them engaged....
